As always, I have a few books going.
One actual old school book, one on my Kindle for nighttime so I can read in bed without my glasses or a light, and one in my ears on Audible when I’m cooking dinner, folding laundry or avoiding playing with my kids…
The Actual Book
The Paradise Problem by Christina Laura
gave me this book and I read what she tells me to read. IYKYK. I just started it the other day when I was poolside during my daughter’s swim team practice and so far, I like it. It’s light, funny and well written. The perfect summer read. Stay tuned for more on this one…The Audio Book
Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman
I just finished this book yesterday. I love a good thriller, but this one ultimately fell flat and had me shaking my head more than a few times thinking, “How dumb can one person be?!” I don’t need to fall in love with the main character, but I need to respect her. And…I didn’t.
The premise had promise. It’s a suspenseful story of what happens when a newlywed couple finds something they shouldn’t during their honeymoon in Bora Bora. What (very slowly) unfolds will leave you asking yourself again and again what you would do in the same situation.
Catherine Steadman, an actress turned best-selling author, reads it herself and has the most beautiful English accent. So, it wasn’t a total waste of time.

What Happens in Paradise by Elin Hildebrand
This is the 2nd book in Hildebrand’s Paradise Trilogy. When I need a mindless escape, I reach for an Elin Hildebrand book. There’s generally mild suspense and good storytelling with a whole lot of characters - some more developed than others. This one is set in St. John rather than her beloved Nantucket, and I have to say: I miss Nantucket. I’ll stick with it because I’m invested in the story, but after this I’ll skedaddle right back to our favorite island off the coast of Cape Cod.
A note: if you’re in early sobriety, I would wait on any of Hildebrand’s books. She’s a master at romanticizing alcohol. Wait unil you’re firmly un-brainwashed and can easily call out that bullshit when you see (or read) it.
Up Next
My brother, Jay, and I decided to listen to the same audiobook so we could talk about it and we chose a nice relaxing read about the most unknown serial killer ever: Israel Keyes. Lol. What can I say? Serial killers are fascinating, and I’m excited that my bro is dipping his toe into true crime.
Fun (and completely terrifying and not fun) Fact: We went to school (from elementary to high school) with a serial killer: Joe Clark, known as The Bonebreaker Killer. Even more terrifying? Jay was on his list.
Should I write more about that???
Okay, so that book is one of the ones I read early because I just couldn't wait, but then have been absolutely kicking myself for reading in the slushy spring when I could have been reading it poolside! I loved it too ~ light and frothy but with a bit of societal heft ♡
